OS for Raspberry Pi3 B+

Beitrag von bocko »

What OS do you recommend for PI3 B+, official Raspbian or maybe some third party like

UBUNTU MATE
SNAPPY UBUNTU CORE
WINDOWS 10 IOT CORE
OSMC
LIBREELEC
PINET
RISC OS

they are on official web page, or do u suggest other linux distribution for Pi3?
I would like to use Win IOT with 32gb sd card, but I am afraid it would be slow or crashy

If you really want to use the Raspi, I strongly recommend Raspbian. I have documented the installation (in German) on the Raspi subpage of my homepage.

But the Raspi is too slow for productive use, the SD memory card is often the root cause for failures, for stand-alone systems the missing RTC (clock) is very annoying, most power suppliers with less than 2.5 A cause the mini computer to crash, especially if USB devices like printers are attached. So it is a nice and cheap hardware for tests, for playing, but for productive use I recommend higher-priced hardware.

Please give some examples and recommendation. Space is an issue, smaller the better, and of course the price. Please state few examples, that you have tried.

I have bought Pi3 B+ and already have problem with SD card it is not accepting it, but the card is ok I have tested it, I must buy some more expensive all in one PC

I have good experience with Intel NUC, cheapest model, but with SSD, costs about 250 Euro. I have installed CentOS as operating system. That system is running in a friend's restaurant without any issues for now two years.

I am not a gastronom, so have no further own experience. Maybe other people in the forum want to share their experience..
